Ukrainian Sheriffs is a documentary portrait, by turn comic and tragic, of two newly appointed sheriffs in a remote village in eastern Ukraine.

Making their rounds over country trails in a 1973 yellow Lada, the duo tackle thefts of ducks and bicycles, accusations of adultery and the mysterious disappearance of village dogs. The sheriffs also do plumbing and electrical work.

When Russia invades Crimea deeper conflicts arise over which the sheriffs have little control.

Ukrainian Sheriffs was winner of the Special Jury Award at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and was Ukraine’s submission to the 2016 Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film.
